We understand that geospatial data isn’t just about transforming an image into a csv file. It involves cleaning, pre-processing and analysis to ensure that each data point is free from noise like cloud cover. This unlocks the potential of geospatial data to provide clear and understandable insights across topics ranging from economics to human development and climate change.
Economic Datasets
Monthly sub-national GDP for European countries:
- Monitor monthly changes in sub-national (city-level) GDP for over 25 European countries.
- Our Europe GDP data is released before official statistics, and provides higher frequency insights. We provide GDP data for over 1300 EU NUTS3 regions with monthly frequency. The data is available from 2014 – present.
- Our data has an accuracy rate of 98% and was produced in partnership with the European Space Agency BIC UK.
Annual sub-national GDP for the globe:
- Monitor annual changes in sub-national (city-level) GDP for over 50,000 regions across the globe from 2000 to 2020.
- We created the first comprehensive global sub-national GDP dataset.
- The insights from this data were published by McKinsey and Company.
Monthly sub-national luminosity:
- We have developed a new method of cleaning and processing night time satellite imagery that is significantly less noisy than existing methods.
- This data can be used to assess the monthly economic performance of regions and countries across the world. The data is provided to you in CSV or geojson format.
- It is currently being used by the World Bank’s Big Data Observatory program.
Human Development Assets
Life expectancy:
- We developed a comprehensive global sub-national life expectancy dataset. It provides life expectancy estimates for over 30,000 sub-national regions from 2000-2019.
- The insights from this data were published by McKinsey and Company.
Government quality:
- We have created the first ever sub-national government quality index for over 30 African countries. This measures how well functioning sub-national governments are in Africa.
- The insights from this data were published in the Journal of Development Studies.
Environmental Datasets
We also clean and process satellite data to provide sub-national measure of pollution and environmental degradation.
For example:
- NO2
- CO
- Deforestation
This data is being used by the World Bank to assess how well Vietnamese districts are performing in terms of both the economy and environment. Click here for more information.
